What benefits may I gain from being more assertive?
Improve your relationships: Being assertive allows us to be honest and open with other people and better able to manage relationship conflict. When we feel more confident being ourselves around others, we can let go of our worries of what others think or the fear of letting others down. We can also better meet our needs within our relationships whilst respecting others’ needs too.
Increase happiness and have less stress: Assertiveness allows us to understand and meet our needs, which can reduce stress, anxiety and low mood and improve our self-esteem.
Go for the career you want: Being assertive gives us the confidence to give our opinions and assert ourselves for opportunities we want. We are better able to say no to inappropriate demands that take up our time and energy. Being assertive allow us to act on what we think and want in a way that is fair for ourselves with out mistreating others.
